March 2009
Dear Friends,
Welcome to the Darfur Dream Team Sister Schools program website! We, the co-Captains of the Darfur Dream Team, are writing to ask you to join a cause that unites us because of its urgency. We would like you to help us give a quality education to every refugee child from the war-torn region of Darfur, which the United Nations has dubbed the worst humanitarian emergency in the world. A diverse group of organizations and individuals have joined together to create this team that will link middle schools, high schools, and universities all over the United States with schools in 12 refugee camps serving children from Darfur.
After he returned from his trip to from the Darfuri refugee camps with John Prendergast and Omer Ismail of the Enough Project, Tracy McGrady told us personal stories of the refugees he met. The Darfuri refugee children want an education, but often cannot receive one because the schools in the camps do not have the tools or resources they need. After listening to stories of their struggles and learning more about the crisis, we joined together as part of the Darfur Dream Team to help the children of Darfur and also raise awareness about the crisis in our communities in the United States.
We are asking you to join the program and take action in any way you can in order to help provide a better education for Darfuri refugee children, and to give students in the United States and Chad a chance to build relationships and learn about each others' lives. You can learn more about how to contribute here. For as little as $82 per refugee student, you can take immediate action to provide the Darfuri students with a quality education. If Darfuri refugee children in Chad have access to a solid education, they will be better equipped to become leaders in their communities and eventually return home to create a lasting peace in Darfur. We look forward to your involvement in the weeks and months ahead. If we work together, our efforts can and will make a meaningful difference.
Sincerely,
Baron Davis, Los Angeles Clippers
